You might say Ed Lein is in denial.

"As far as I'm concerned, I won," Lein says of his experience as a first-time competitor in the Jacksonville Symphony's recent Fresh Ink 2006-Florida Composers' Competition.

Although fellow composer Christopher Weiss landed the top prize with an original work titled Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Lein does have a point, considering his own goal for the fourth biennial contest.

You won’t see shelves of books in the building when you attend a performance by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra at the T-U Center, but if you go to the Main Library’s 3 West Room, you’ll find the orchestra’s entire 2006-07 season.

For the past several years, Reference Librarian Ed Lein has combed through the library’s collection to create a display that mirrors the symphony’s selections from the first performance to the last. He said his annual display not only promotes the symphony’s season, it also highlights the library’s collection.

Library customers can now browse for their favorite composers or musical works on the library's Web site. The main library's Fine Arts holdings have been packaged in a way that makes them more accessible to all users.

The online arrangement allows users to see the library's holdings in a way they might not have thought about before viewing the spotlight Web pages.

Ed Lein, music librarian in the Fine Arts Department, has compiled user-friendly information for classical music lovers on the library's Web site.
